Some Examples of People that Repented in the Bible

Some people in the Bible that repented are David, Saul, and the woman at the well.

Psalm 51: 1-17, David: A broken and contrite heart You, God, will not despise.

In verse 4, David says to God, “Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak, and justified when You judge. Then in verse 7, David Implores God to help him here, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” David asks for restoration in verse 12 saying, “Restore unto me the Joy of thy salvation and, uphold me with thy free spirit.”

David is more concerned with God forgiving him and restoring him as a Child of God. God did in 1 Samuel 13:14, here, we learned that David had been sought out and that he is a man after God’s own heart, appointed ruler over his people (Acts 13:22).

Saul: He asked God, “Who art Thou Lord?” In his encounter with God, we also learn that in Acts 9:3-18 Saul’s heart was not hardened. Hebrew 3:15 helps us understand that this is the stance God requires from us. He says “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

Acts 9:15-18 shows that Ananias was hesitant to go to Saul, but the Lord told him “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Isreal. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it, placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the holy spirit.

Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes and he could see again. He got up and was baptized.

Lastly, the account about the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:1-30. The Samaritan woman accepted what Jesus said to her and her life was no longer the same. In verses 28-30, she told all that Jesus had told her and became an evangelist.
