Teachings of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ spoke about himself in Matthew 5:17, he said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them…” These are his views on the daily living experiences of murder, adultery, and divorce.

In Matthew 5:21-24 He said, “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, you shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment: But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.” Furthermore, He said: “Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister ‘Raca’ (Jewish word for contempt) is answerable to the court. And anyone who says ‘you fool’ will be in danger of hell.” Then He concludes: “If you are offering your gift at the altar and remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First, go and reconcile to them then come offer your gift.” Jesus abhors hypocrisy, so we should be pure in heart.

His teaching on adultery differs from what Leviticus 20:10 teaches. Whereas it says if a man commits adultery with another man’s wife (with the wife of his neighbor) both the adulterer and adulteress are to be put to death, Jesus teaches differently. In Matthew 5:27-28 He says that “everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intention has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

“Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard.” However, according to Matthew 19:8-9, “ It was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.” As said by Jesus Christ

In Hebrews 13:14, He said marriage should be honored by all. And the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. In conclusion, we should endeavor not to stray from these teachings of Jesus Christ in conducting our everyday affairs.
