Worthy of His Calling: Part 2
“Calling” in this context is to be called of God. It is usual for people to say, “I got a call from God to my ministry.”
In John 6:39 Jesus said: “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.” Then in Romans 8:30 he said: “And those he predestined, he also called, those he called he also justified, those he justified he also glorified.” “For God’s gift and His calling are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29) Today people have formed ministries based on the call of God in our world.
However, in Luke 9:62, Jesus states the cost of following him; When he said, “No one who puts a hand on the plow and looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God.”
Furthermore, James 1:22-25 enjoins all by saying, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it – not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it – will be blessed in what they do.” We must ask ourselves, are we doers of the word? Are we following the precept of who has called us?
