The “Called”

The called are those in the Bible that were sent to perform specific duties. People like Abram, Moses, Joshua, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Gideon were called to do what God wanted at a particular time. In Ezekiel 22:30, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it.” In this instance, God seeks someone to intercede for the sinners. God is always looking for a man to stand in the gap for humanity. Additionally, the Bible gives us insight into how God gets people he calls in Jeremiah 1:5. He said, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” He is talking about those pre-ordained for the purpose he has set out for them.

For example, Abram started a process of the relocation of the Israelites to the promised land as stated in Genesis 12:1. The Lord said to him, “Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Furthermore, verses 2-3 tell the reader what blessings God bestowed upon Abram for following his instructions.

The blessings God bestows upon him are: “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you.”

“I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.”

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Abram obeyed God.

Thank you for reading again. I will continue this topic on May 20th with an exposition of some of the other “called” people.
