Miracles

“For you are great and do marvelous deeds. You alone are god.” Psalm 86:10 (NIV). Dictionary.com says that miracles are an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpass all known human or natural powers and are ascribed to a supernatural cause. Furthermore, it is seen as such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God, and it could also be classified as a wonder; marvel, and a wonderful or surpassing example of some quality.

The Bible is replete with miraculous deeds. Isaiah 43: 19 (NIV) states the plans of God, “See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” The wilderness is an uncultivated, uninhabited, and incompatible region. It is similar to a neglected or abandoned area. God promising to make a way in such a difficult place shows how powerful and wonderful he is. For this good thing to occur in such a place shows that this is truly a miracle that only God is capable of.

Now, the first miracle Jesus Christ performed in the bible is turning water into wine at a wedding Cana in Galilee, (John 2:1-12). Jesus also performed miracles to reveal God’s glory, an example of this is when He raised Lazarus from the dead in John 2:11, and when he brought Jairus’ daughter back to life in Mark 5:35-42, and a widow’s son from the dead in Nain in Luke 7:11-17. This always goes to show his compassion for the sufferings of humanity.
