David: A Man After God’s Own Heart

There are so many attributes that made David endearing to God. He offered reverential prayers to God, he trusted God, he was devoted to God, he was repentant, and he was faithful. These attributes of David can be found in numerous bible passages.

In Psalm 2:11 he said to “serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling,” and in Psalm 5 he also dwelt on the way we should approach God in prayer. Ephesians 3:12, David says that in him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

The famous verse, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want..” shows David’s trust in God, which can also be seen again in Psalm 56:3-4. David holds God in awe and has devoted himself to the Lord. His longing for a relationship with him can be seen in Psalm 63:1, “And when he went astray with the issue of Bathsheba and her husband, Uriah, he desired to reconcile with Jehovah God in Psalm 34:4.

“Hide your face from my sins and blot out my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.” Psalm 51:9-12

David is described as “A man after God’s own heart” in Acts 13:22, and we can see his devotion to the Lord in 1 Samuel 13:14. He does all God wants him to do. He is a good example for every man and woman who desires to please God.

The following is a quote from David:

“Wash me o lord for my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only I have sinned, and done this evil in your sight that you may be found just when you speak and blameless when you judge.”

Psalm 51:2

Thank you for reading! I hope and believe that these attributes of David will ignite a fire within us to be devoted to God. Amen. The next blog post will be on March 31.
