Teachings of Jesus Christ (cont.)

To continue our previous discussion on the teachings of Jesus Christ, Matthew 6:16 mentions Jesus’s opinion on fasting. He says, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. The Lord said they had received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Furthermore, he taught about treasures. In Matthew 6:19-21, he said, “Do not store up treasures for yourselves, treasures on earth where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven..” He concludes that: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Christ has also given us his thoughts on worry. He enjoins us not to worry at all, about our livelihood. “Look at the birds of the air,” he states; “they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” He then asks a rhetorical question, “Are you not much more valuable than they?” He then asks: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” If we adhere to all these teachings, we will feel grateful that Jesus died for us sinners, and will live stress-free.

Thank you for taking the time to read today’s blog post. The next one will come out on November 13th.
