Jesus Christ spoke of the conduct he was expecting towards the poor, how to deal with the judgment of others, and what a true disciple looks like. In Deuteronomy 15:11, the Lord stated, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore, I commend you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.” Furthermore, verses 7 and 8 stress this point, continuing He says, “If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any towns of the land, the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.”
In Matthew 7:1, Jesus gave his perspective on the judgment of others. It says, “I ask why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye. As we all are aware trying to change another human is an uphill task. Only God can change man.” Therefore, this saying is about us improving our conduct instead of trying to force other people to change. This will go a long way in stopping us from criticizing and condemning other people and will help us forgive others. God is a better judge of all characters.
Therefore, like in the parable of the wheat and tares (Matthew 13:24-43), we can glean his teachings of true and false disciples. Here, the servants were warned not to pull off the weeds so that they would not root out the wheat as well as the weeds. This is an illustration that is meant to make us understand that the false disciples are allowed to exist for now with the real disciples because when Jesus Christ comes back, He will make the eternal separation.
Likewise, Jesus made a distinction between true and false disciples. He said, “If you hold my teaching, you are really my disciples.” (John 8:31) “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven?” Only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Continuing he said, “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord did we not prophesy in your name? And in your name drive out demons? And in your name perform miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly; ‘I never knew you. Away from me evildoers.’” (Matthew 7:21-23) Heaven is made for those who did not adulterate the word of God.
