Webster’s New Universal Dictionary describes sin as evil and wickedness which is any voluntary transgression of religious law or moral principle; moral depravity; or iniquity. Why would anyone choose this path?
In Genesis, the first people, Adam and Eve did this; they disobeyed God. King Saul did as well when he refused to utterly destroy the Amalekites in 1 Samuel 15:22, 26.
The effect of sin is alienation from God (Romans 6:23). However, God loves us so much that he created a pathway for redemption. Forgiveness from sin is a possibility for man as stated in 1 John 1:9. But we have to acknowledge our sinful ways and desire to renounce them, then submit to the Lordship of God through his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
There are consequences for a violation of God’s rule. For Adam and Eve, it was a banishment from Eden and a curse (Genesis 3:16 & Genesis 3:17-19). The Lord rejected Saul as King in 1 Samuel 15:23. Later on, he died with his sons in battle because of his sins (1 Samuel 31:6).
