The Lord appeared to Moses in flames of fire from within a bush. “Moses! Moses!” God called and introduced himself, (Exodus 3:4). Then God said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt,” (Exodus 3:7). “So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey. So now go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt,” (Exodus 3:10). And Moses, by the leading of God, succeeded in leading the Israelites away from Egypt, (Exodus 12:51).
After the death of Moses, God gave a clarion call to Joshua as stated in Joshua 1:2, “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give them” (to the Israelites). Continuing, he said: “I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates – all the Hittite country to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:1-5)
There is a condition for this victory on the part of Joshua. This is spelled out in Joshua 1:8, he is to “Keep this book of the law always on his lips; Meditate on it day and night, so that he will be careful to do everything written in it. Then he will be prosperous and successful.”
God led him to be victorious because he obeyed. There is always a condition for victory for the “called”. But just as there are conditions, there are also benefits.
Thank you for reading today. Be on the lookout for another part of The “Called” on June 3rd.
