Faith in God: Part 3

The Lord was beginning to have second thoughts about the human beings he had made, and his heart was distraught. Noah came into the biblical picture at a time when God had this to say about human beings, “I will wipe from the face of the Earth the human race I have created – and with them the camels, the birds, and the creatures that move along the ground – for I regret that I have made them.”  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. All that has been said can be found in Genesis 6:6-8.

Furthermore, in Ezekiel 22:30, we learned more about God’s thoughts concerning humanity. “And I sought for a man among them who would make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me, for the land, so that I would not destroy it.”

This is similar to what happened in Abraham’s days. God was always looking for ways to uphold man when he negotiated with God so that the land of Sodom and Gomorrah would not be destroyed (Genesis 18:23-33). This, and the Lord’s heart is captured in Isaiah 6:8, which says, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? And I said here am I. Send me!”

So, Noah responded to the call of God. He followed the instructions of God by building an Ark and did all that was commanded of him. So, humanity was not consumed when it rained on Earth for forty days and forty nights. God declared in Genesis 8:21-22, “And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. As long as the Earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease. Once again God upheld humanity because of Noah’s faithfulness.
